AMPP and SASO Sign Technical Cooperation Program (TCP) Agreement

AMPP has signed a new Technical Cooperation Program (TCP) agreement with the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), strengthening global collaboration in standards development, corrosion control, coatings performance, and materials protection across the Middle East and international markets.

This agreement creates a formal framework for cooperation in several high-impact areas, including the exchange of technical data, alignment of emerging and draft standards, joint participation in international standardization committees, and coordinated training programs to support industry-wide quality infrastructure.

By partnering with SASO, AMPP expands its role in advancing global standardization and ensuring consistent best practices for industries that rely on corrosion management, asset integrity, and protective coatings. Read the full AMPP–SASO release.

AMPP Selected for National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) Award

AMPP has been selected for its first-ever lead project under the National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP), a major milestone that strengthens AMPP’s role in advancing U.S. maritime workforce development, corrosion protection, and coatings performance.

The awarded project, Accelerated Workforce Readiness via Dynamic Workforce Modeling, will use AI-enabled workforce analytics to identify critical skills gaps across corrosion protection, coatings application, and materials performance roles. The goal is to improve workforce readiness for both the U.S. Navy and commercial maritime industry.

This initiative is supported by several key partners, including leading shipbuilding organizations, and builds on AMPP’s work with the Gates Foundation–funded credential transparency initiative and Old Dominion University’s MSTA 1.0 initiative. Together, these efforts advance AMPP’s mission to equip the next generation of maritime and shipbuilding professionals with validated, industry-aligned technical skills.

AMPP MEMBER MOMENTS

AMPP Member Moments: Celebrating the People Who Advance Materials Protection & Performance

A story is just a story until it’s told with depth. Our members’ stories are all different—each with a unique plot, setting, purpose, and cast of characters—but they all share one thing: passion for protecting assets, infrastructure, and communities. Some stories are rooted in tradition, some begin with first-generation ambition, and some start with a simple, “I fell into this.”

Stories help people make sense of a world they may not know exists. They connect facts to feelings and turn technical work into something memorable. Your contributions quietly protect lives and critical infrastructure every day. That story is worth telling, worth celebrating, and worth honoring. The legacy you are building deserves a platform and a voice—a place where others can learn from it, understand its impact, and be inspired.

AMPP is grateful for every person, every late night, every problem solved, and every moment you have given to drive meaningful change across the corrosion control, coatings, and materials performance professions. Here, your untold story matters.

“Your commitment may not make headlines, but it changes lives and strengthens our industry. We appreciate all you contribute to our community.”
- Alan Thomas, AMPP CEO

As you look toward the unwritten chapters of your story, imagine how what you do next can shape the generations who follow. Your passion sets the standard others will strive to meet. With your example, the next generation of professionals is ready to begin. We need leaders like you to help write the next pages of AMPP’s story.

As your story continues, PowerUp your next chapter and become part of AMPP’s legacy.

If your renewal is coming up, renew your membership and keep your story going.

AMPP GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

Advocating for the Future of Materials Performance and Infrastructure Safety

In 2025, AMPP’s Government Affairs team continued elevating the organization’s presence in Washington, D.C., strengthening relationships with key federal agencies, congressional offices, and partner associations. Our advocacy efforts focus on priorities central to AMPP members across three critical policy arenas:

  1. Strengthening AMPP’s decades-long partnership with the U.S. Department of War (DoW) to support corrosion prevention, protective coatings, and asset readiness.

  2. Addressing workforce challenges impacting skilled painters, blasters, and coatings applicators who form the backbone of the maritime industrial base.

  3. Protecting lives and national infrastructure through close collaboration with PHMSA, the Department of Energy, and congressional committees responsible for pipeline safety legislation and materials performance standards.

Throughout the year, AMPP engaged with the White House, the House and Senate Committees on Transportation and Defense, and the Department of Labor to illustrate how AMPP standards, certified professionals, and technical training programs contribute to safer, longer-lasting, and more cost-effective infrastructure.

We also collaborated with industry leaders and union partners to shape discussions on infrastructure implementation, corrosion management, and workforce development across energy, transportation, and maritime sectors.

Unfortunately, due to a historically volatile congressional schedule and the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, AMPP was forced to cancel all planned Advocacy Days in 2025. While disappointing, we remain committed to reinstating these events next year. Multiple legislative efforts will require member engagement to move forward—please stay tuned for details on how you can support these initiatives.

Looking ahead to 2026 and the second half of the 119th Congress, AMPP’s Advocacy Department will continue driving these priorities and will host a Government Relations Forum at the AMPP Annual Conference in March.
