AMPP India Chapter had organized the newly developed Online Training programme Basic Corrosion and Mitigation Methods during 19 – 20 May 2023.

Mr. N Manohar Rao, AMPP Member-At-Large, inaugurated the Programme, briefed the activities of the AMPP India Chapter and welcomed all the participants.

The Program covered the concepts of corrosion, the causes of corrosion and the methods by which corrosion is identified and mitigated. It focused on different corrosion protection methods. In the current business environment, corrosion failures may involve personal injuries, fatalities, unscheduled shutdowns, contaminated products and environmental damage. However, the lack of knowledge and experience in corrosion and corrosion protection among local technical managers, designers, engineers, and technicians remains one of the main obstacles to effective action in the industry.

The faculty included professional experts from organizations and academic institutions. The topics were as below:

  • Introduction to Corrosion, basic electrochemistry, and Thermodynamics - Prof Lakshman Neelakantan, IIT Madras
  • Electrode kinetics, Fundamentals of corrosion rate measurement and electrochemical work bench - Prof Lakshman Neelakantan, IIT Madras
  • Forms of Corrosion - general and localized, effect of stress and motion – Dr. Shyama Ranade, Consultant
  • Corrosive Environments - Prof. Kallol Mondal, IIT Kanpur
  • Corrosion Inspection, Monitoring & Testing - Prof Shashi Bhushan Arya, NITK, Surathkal
  • Corrosion Prevention - Prof Shashi Bhushan Arya, NITK, Surathkal
