The AMPP India Chapter organized an online Educational & Training Program on Corrosion Control of City Gas Distribution Pipeline Network from 14 to 15 June 2024. Due to an overwhelming response, the program was conducted again from 28 to 29 June 2024.
Mr. Sumeet Kataria, the AMPP Program Coordinator, inaugurated the program, provided an overview of the chapter’s activities and warmly welcomed all participants.
City Gas Distribution (CGD) is the fastest-growing end-user segment and plays an integral role in the country’s economic development. Developing and implementing an effective integrity management plan for the CGD network is crucial for evaluating associated risk, safeguarding the personnel, property and the environment, streamlining operations and minimizing the CGD network failures.
The program featured experts from renowned organizations and academic institutions. The topics which covered included:
- Introduction to Corrosion, Basic Electrochemistry, and Thermodynamics – by Prof Lakshman Neelakandan, IIT Madras
- City Gas Network – Description of Network, Layout, Planning & Operations – by Mr. Srinivasan Murali, UEPL Unison Enviro Private Limited
- Monitoring & Measurement – by Mr. T Harish Tallam, Gujarat Gas Ltd
- Inspection, Testing & Documentation – by Mr. T Harish Tallam, Gujarat Gas Ltd
- Integrity Assessment of City Gas Pipelines with Direct Assessment (DA) or ILI – by Mr. Ashish Khera, Allied Engineers
- CP Design Concepts (TCP & PCP) – by Mr. Pankaj Panchal, Corrosion Protection Specialist Pvt Ltd
- Primary Protection through Coatings, (FBE, Internal, 3LPE) – by Dr. Buddhadeb Duari, Lalita Infraprojects Pvt Ltd

This training program was attended by 86 professional engineers from various industries such as Bhagyanagar Gas Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bhilai Engineering Corporation Limited (BEC), China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation, Cormit Elect Projects Private Limited, Dehn India Pvt Ltd, Dürr India Private Limited, Element Materials Technology - Abu Dhabi, Gas Transmission Company Ltd., GE Power India Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Lizmontagens, Megha City Gas Distribution Private Limited, Oil India Ltd., Sabarmati Gas Limited, Seal for Life, SET Bangla, SKN Haryana City Gas Distribution Pvt. Ltd, Sopan O&M Company Pvt. Ltd., Tata Steel Limited, Unison Enviro Private Limited etc. In addition to participants from India, attendees also joined from countries such as Australia, Bangladesh, Qatar, Oman, Muscat, Abu Dhabi etc.
Mr. Rishikesh Mishra, Chapter Manager of Technical Services, was the coordinator for the program. The training program was a stupendous success and received high appreciation from participants. It concluded with a vote of thanks to all attendees, marking the end of a highly impactful event.
