CTS - Pipeline Assets Management

In the footstep of the First Technical Series, the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (IMME), University of the Punjab, Lahore in collaboration with AMPP Pakistan Chapter successfully conducted the Second Corrosion Technical Series 2022 on 28 September 2022 for the benefit of undergrad students and young engineers. The lecture was conducted by practicing and experienced professionals having hands-on experience gained in executing different projects.

M/s SGS Pakistan which is one of the Swiss companies to be set up in a newly born country, has evolved into a dynamic company having a team of specialists in various disciplines of quality verification, supported by state-of-the-art testing laboratories and advanced technology, over the years. In this context, Mr. Khurram Shehzad Zaka, Deputy Manager of SGS Pvt. Ltd was requested to deliver a lecture on the topic of the second technical session, “Pipeline Assets Management”, which was conducted at the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, University of the Punjab, Lahore. In his lecture, Mr. Zaka explained the importance of Pipeline Asset Management and emphasized that the Pipeline operator’s objective is to continue providing safe and reliable delivery of oil and gas products to their customers without any adverse effect on employees, the public, and the environment. When pipeline integrity is compromised, the probability of pipeline leakage becomes higher. Pipeline Integrity Management Services, PIMS embodies an error-free, leak-free, spill-free, and incident-free continuous operation of a pipeline system, onshore and/or offshore, with no ill effect on health, safety, environment, and the economy.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Acting Director, IMME thanked Mr. Khurram Shahzad Zaka for sharing his valuable knowledge and experience with the students. He also thanked Engr. Shafqat Ali, Chair, AMPP Pakistan Chapter, for assisting and coordinating the session. He appreciated the efforts of Ameeq Farooq, Lecturer at the institute, for organizing such an informative session. Engr. Shafqat Ali highlighted the objective of AMPP in providing a platform for corrosion engineers and stressed the importance of acquiring international corrosion certifications, accepted globally in the corrosion control and mitigation sector.
