    April 16, 2024 EAPA Newsletters

AMPP India Chapter organised a two-day educational & training program on Best Practices for Effective Direct Assessment for Pipelines from 26 – 27 February 2024 at Hotel Rodas, Powai, Mumbai.

The non-intrusive technique of Direct Assessment (DA) remains an excellent acceptable proven integrity validation tool. It has been primarily utilized for assessing the integrity of non-piggable lines. However, it also remains a very effective complementary integrity validation tool for piggable lines, especially when the motivation is to understand the holistic health of a pipeline.

DA programs of External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA), Internal Corrosion Direct Assessment (ICDA) and Stress Corrosion Cracking Direct Assessment (SCCDA) which are based on best practices have been successfully applied to several piggable and non-piggable lines with a mandatory deliverable of determining of the remaining life of the pipeline, safest operating pressure, root cause analysis and providing a mitigation plan for managing the corrosion rate.

The program also covered, the advantages of integrating the DA programs with In-line Inspection (ILI), demonstrating how these programs can help pipeline owner’s overall integrity program and risk management. This DA program also included case studies from India and globally, focusing on the theme of the event "Best Practices" and "Effective" DA programs to get successful integrity validation results for the pipeline.

Mr. Ashish Khera was the instructor for the training program. Mr. Khera is a recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Certified Instructor for AMPP Courses such as Direct Assessment (DA), Pipeline Corrosion Integrity Management (PCIM), Pipeline Corrosion Assessment Field Techniques & Internal Corrosion for Pipelines, and ASME Course on Managing System Integrity of Gas Systems - ASME B31.8S.
