Effective Direct Assessment for Pipelines

The AMPP India Chapter organized a two-day educational and training program on “Best Practices for Effective Direct Assessment for Pipelines” on 8 - 9 August 2024 in New Delhi.

The program highlighted the advantages of integrating Direct Assessment (DA) programs with In-line Inspection (ILI) program, and demonstrated how these programs contribute to the overall integrity management and risk mitigation efforts of pipeline owners. DA programs of External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA), Internal Corrosion Direct Assessment (ICDA) and Stress Corrosion Cracking Direct Assessment (SCCDA) emphasizing industry best practices. These DA programs have been successfully implemented in both piggable and non-piggable lines. Key deliverables included determining the pipeline’s remaining life, identifying the safest operating pressure, conducting root cause analysis and developing a comprehensive mitigation plan to manage corrosion rates effectively.

Mr. Ashish Khera was the instructor for the training program. Mr. Khera is a recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) and a Certified Instructor for AMPP Courses such as Direct Assessment (DA), Pipeline Corrosion Integrity Management (PCIM), Pipeline Corrosion Assessment Field Techniques & Internal Corrosion for Pipelines, and ASME Course on Managing System Integrity of Gas Systems - ASME B31.8S. He was also the Lead Co-author of the latest NACE pipeline certification 5-day course on “Direct Assessment” for AMPP in Houston.

Participants are from Bureau Veritas India Pvt Ltd, DNP Limited, Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd., Assam Gas Company Ltd., Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Gail (India) Limited, Gujarat State Petronet Limited, Basics Techno Services Private Limited, Pipeline Management Services Private Limited, CSIR - IIP, Oil India Limited, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., SARK, Indraprastha Gas Limited and IEV Group Sdn Bhd, Malaysia etc.

Mr. Rishikesh Mishra, Manager, Technical Services at the AMPP India Chapter, provided an overview of the chapter’s activities and delivered the vote of thanks during the open forum discussion. Certificates were awarded to all participants. The two-day training program was a resounding success and received high praise from participants, as reflected in the feedback forms.

The next training program on “Effective Direct Assessment for Pipelines” is scheduled for 27 - 28 February 2025 in Mumbai, India.
