April 24th is International Corrosion Awareness Day, founded by the World Corrosion Organization to highlight the estimated US$ 2.5 trillion (Equal to the size of the Indian GDP) annual cost of corrosion worldwide.

The Engineering Community is constantly working to reduce the corrosion issue & making the world a safer & sustainable environment by introducing new materials and new coatings, reducing the rate of corrosion of existing materials, upgrading operation & maintenance practices, and using Artificial Intelligence & Big Data Analytics to predict and mitigate corrosion. As India is rapidly building its new infrastructure in Oil & Gas Refineries, Pipelines, Petrochemical Plants, Marine, Aerospace, Defense and Infrastructure industries, in coming years there will be a huge requirement for Professional Engineers to prevent the corrosion of assets and provide a safe environment to the society.
