Celebrate Your Members: Creating a Member Recognition Program That Builds Community

Written by Lydia Prazak | Jul 21, 2026 2:00:02 PM

When members choose to share their accomplishments, everyone benefits. Your chapter strengthens its community, recognizes member achievements, and creates authentic content people are excited to share.

Every Member Has A Story

One of the best ways to build an engaged chapter isn't by posting more promotional content—it's by celebrating the people who make your chapter successful.

Members are earning certifications, receiving awards, volunteering in their communities, reaching career milestones, mentoring students, and accomplishing incredible things every day. These achievements deserve to be recognized.

The challenge is that you may not know when these milestones happen, and for privacy reasons, you shouldn't assume members want their accomplishments shared publicly.

The solution is simple: create an easy, opt-in way for members to tell your chapter about news they'd like to celebrate.

Not only does this help recognize your members, but it also creates authentic content that members are proud to share with their own professional networks.

Why Member Recognition Matters

Recognition is about more than social media.

It helps:

    • Build a stronger sense of community
    • Encourage member engagement
    • Highlight the value of chapter membership
    • Celebrate volunteers
    • Inspire students and early-career professionals
    • Showcase the expertise within your chapter

When people feel appreciated, they're more likely to stay involved.

Let Members Tell You Their News

Rather than trying to keep up with every accomplishment, invite members to share what they'd like recognized.

This approach:

    • Respects member privacy
    • Gives members control over what is shared
    • Ensures information is accurate
    • Makes recognition more sustainable for volunteers

A simple invitation can go a long way:

"Have exciting news to share? We'd love to celebrate your accomplishments! Submit your milestone for possible recognition by our chapter."

Make it Easy to Participate

The easier it is to submit information, the more likely members are to do it.

Options might include:

    • An online submission form on your chapter website
    • A dedicated email address for recognition submissions
    • A recurring reminder in your chapter newsletter
    • A link in event registration confirmations
    • A QR code displayed at chapter meetings

The important thing is having one consistent place where members know they can submit their news.

What Should Members Be Able to Share

Provide examples to inspire submissions.

Professional Achievements

    • New certifications
    • Promotions
    • Career milestones
    • New jobs
    • Retirement announcements

Chapter Contributions

    • Volunteer recognition
    • Committee service
    • Years of AMPP membership
    • Chapter leadership milestones

Awards and Recognition

    • Industry awards
    • Company recognition
    • Technical accomplishments
    • Speaking engagements
    • Published articles

Student Successes

    • Scholarships
    • Graduation
    • Internships
    • Competition awards
    • Student chapter achievements

You don't have to recognize everything—but giving examples helps members understand what kinds of updates are welcome.

Ask for Permission Up Front

When members submit their information, be clear about how it may be used.

For example, your submission process can include a statement such as:

"By submitting this information, you give the chapter permission to share your accomplishment on chapter communication channels, including social media, newsletters, and the chapter website."

Including a simple consent checkbox helps set expectations and ensures members are choosing to participate.

Keep Recognition Consistent

Recognition doesn't have to happen immediately.

Instead, create a simple schedule.

Examples:

    • Monthly Member Spotlight
    • Volunteer of the Month
    • Quarterly Member Achievements Roundup
    • Student Success Showcase
    • Annual Recognition Celebration

Consistency is more important than frequency.

Encourage Members to Share the Recognition

Once a member has been featured:

Send them:

    • The social media graphic
    • A direct link to the post
    • A thank-you message

Many members will happily share the recognition with coworkers, friends, and professional connections.

That extends the reach of your chapter while celebrating the individual.

Tips for Making Recognition Meaningful

Recognition doesn't have to be elaborate.

A simple post that includes:

    • Member name
    • Photo (if provided)
    • Achievement
    • Congratulations from the chapter

is often enough to make someone feel appreciated.

Whenever possible:

    • Use the member's own words
    • Include a professional photo if they've provided one
    • Keep the tone warm and genuine
    • Celebrate the accomplishment without making it feel like an advertisement

Authenticity always resonates more than polished marketing.

Start Celebrating Your Members Today

Every chapter is filled with members doing remarkable things.

Instead of trying to discover every accomplishment on your own, invite members to share the milestones they're proud of.

A simple recognition program creates opportunities to celebrate your community, strengthen member engagement, and showcase the incredible professionals who make your chapter special.

Best of all, when members share those recognition posts with their own networks, they're not just celebrating themselves—they're helping others discover the value of your chapter.
