Common Questions About Corrosion, Coatings, and Asset Protection

What is the AMPP Ambassador Program?

The AMPP Ambassador Program is a global volunteer initiative that empowers members to advocate for the materials protection and performance profession. Ambassadors help strengthen industry connections, share technical knowledge, promote professional development opportunities, and support AMPP's mission around the world.

Why is contractor qualification important for infrastructure projects?

Contractor qualification helps asset owners reduce risk, improve project quality, and increase long-term infrastructure reliability. Programs such as the AMPP Quality Procedures (QP) Program establish recognized standards for contractor capabilities, quality management, and project execution.

What are the benefits of joining a professional corrosion and materials protection association?

Professional associations provide access to technical resources, industry standards, training, certifications, networking opportunities, and career development support.

AMPP members gain access to a global community of corrosion engineers, coatings professionals, asset owners, inspectors, researchers, and industry leaders.

What is pipeline integrity and why is it important?

Pipeline integrity refers to the processes, technologies, inspections, and maintenance programs used to ensure pipelines operate safely and reliably throughout their service life.

Pipeline operators monitor threats such as corrosion, coating degradation, mechanical damage, and hydrogen embrittlement. Read the latest in the Pipeline Industry Report.

    What is hydrogen embrittlement?

Hydrogen embrittlement occurs when hydrogen enters a metal and reduces its ductility and toughness, increasing the risk of cracking and failure.

As hydrogen becomes a growing component of future energy systems, understanding hydrogen embrittlement is becoming increasingly important for infrastructure reliability.

What are the AMPP VIS Guides?

AMPP VIS Guides are visual reference standards used to evaluate surface preparation quality before protective coatings are applied.

The recently released VIS Guide 10 and VIS Guide 11 support emerging surface preparation technologies including plasma cleaning and laser ablation.
